At Correa Suriname, we want you to feel at home in Suriname. Not a quick vacation, but an experience that will stay with you forever. That's why we share five tips for your stay in Suriname below... Real advice from people who live there.
When you come to Suriname, it is tempting to choose a hotel in the center of Paramaribo. But believe us: enjoyment doesn't just happen where tourists come together. Real life is found in neighborhoods with dirt roads, a corner food stall and children playing outside.
At Correa Suriname, our apartments are deliberately located in such neighborhoods. Think Rainville or Blueground. These are places where you can walk to a diner during the day and hear the sounds of people laughing together in their yards at night.
Local tip: Even at night, explore your own neighborhood. When the sun is less bright, the city really comes to life.
If you Google “best restaurants in Paramaribo”, you will undoubtedly end up with a few well-known names. Great choice for a safe first meal. But do you really want to eat well? Then ask your neighbor where she picks up if she doesn't feel like cooking.
Local tip: Look for a place to eat that doesn't look that impressive from the outside, but where the food smells like your grandma just started in the kitchen.

Suriname is not only a country with impressive nature, but also a place where culture and history are deeply rooted. In addition to the nature reserves, there are countless places where you can experience the country's rich history. Think of a visit to the historic Jewish Savannah, where you'll learn more about the influence of colonialism in Suriname, or a trip to Coronie, known for beekeeping and coconut trees.
Local tip: Take part in a traditional Srefidensi celebration, celebrating Surinamese independence. And taste the real Surinamese cuisine with all the trimmings!
The most beautiful trips during your stay in Suriname don't happen at your kitchen table. They originate here. When you get into a conversation with someone who invites you to go to Commewijne for a day of boating. Or if your guide decides to make a detour to a deserted creek where you can swim along the way.
Local tip: Consciously don't plan your entire trip, but leave room for chance. Ask your accommodation if they know a guide who “doesn't work with groups” but just wants to show you his favorite spots.
We prefer to avoid the clichés, so we're not talking about “letting go of time”. But the fact is: in Suriname, you get the chance to live in a different way. Not out of haste, but out of attention. And if you are a bit open to that, it suddenly gives your stay a whole new meaning.
Local tip: Get up early. Drink your coffee outside. Walk to the supermarket. Sit under a tree and watch the people. It may sound boring, but this is the rhythm where you really feel alive. And that's exactly why people fall in love with this country.
